Stockport shining through the media

Always nice when the achievements of Stockport Volleyball Club, ‘the Sport’ are recognised.  Please find the images and articles from the latest edition of the Stockport Mail.  The newspaper goes on to say:

“From tiny acorns, mighty oaks can grow.  That is exactly, what has happened, since Father and Son, Adrian and Kaya Stores, established Stockport Volleyball Club, a couple of Years ago.  The Club, affectionately known as “the  S’PORT” started around creating community activities.  It runs from the Seashell Trust in Cheadle Hulme, and if the master plans for site redevelopment are granted planning approval, would have a new sports hall as its base.  Presently, training is alternate weeks, adults and juniors. The former allows people of all abilities to come and try courtesy of collaboration with Life Leisure and its’ ‘I Wish I’d Tried’ scheme.  Last Week the juniors played in a tournament at Frodsham Volleyball Club and youngsters from Year 4 to Year 8 managed to get into two finals as runners up.

At the other end of the spectrum, a little known secret is that Stockport, the S’PORT, plays in the National Volleyball League (NVL) and is presently top of the League having lost only two games all Season; and is still in the National Shield playing Black Country in the next round.  The standard is exceptional with some players for the S’PORT of international calibre.  The NVL Team plays at Life Leisure Priestnall. Admission is free for spectators.

The ambitious plans for this growing Club includes a Women’s Team for next Season and coaching in the Borough’s Schools thanks to a grant which will part fund this initiative from the David Hopkins Foundation.

Local Stockport businesses have got behind this success story and this not-for profit venture, including: Music Magpie, Sun Sense, Greenfields, ACROBAT FCSM, Cheadle College, Snowden Wilkinson  and Jim Hall Sports.”
